We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our team whereby you will help develop and support VMware's Multi-Cloud SaaS Platform and be part of a passionate, hard-working, global and culturally diverse team. We have many extremely exciting Cloud Native projects being worked on and in the pipeline that is highly strategic to VMware.

About the team
VMware’s globally distributed infrastructure platform is built using a combination of industry-standard open-source solutions and internally developed applications and is backed by the Kubernetes eco-system running on public cloud providers. The platform powers VMware's largest SaaS products in production, including VMware Cloud on AWS. The plat‐ form team are responsible for providing infrastructure services and tools to internal teams as self-service systems, so engineering teams can focus on delivering value to customers. This platform and team host VMware's most significant SaaS products in production, including VMware Cloud on AWS CarbonBlack Networking (NSBU) and Cloud Management Business Unit (CMBU) services. We get to play with the latest cloud-native technologies to sup‐ port the business, inclusivity is critical where everyone can have a voice and make a difference. You will be part of a vital team providing the platform integral to VMware's SaaS transformation; we are essential in increasing VMware's Annual Revenue Recognition (ARR) by ensuring our services are stable and secure. Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will
work toward completing?

  • Understand the existing codebase, further developing and enhancing our fleet management multi-cloud control plane

  • Create new Kubernetes Custom Resource Definitions & Operators in Golang

  • Deploy clusters use ClusterAPI

  • Write and solicit feedback for design proposals

  • Develop and maintain high-quality software that delivers on the team’s objectives primarily in typescript, python and terraform and Golang

  • Participate in all team scrum ceremonies

  • Participate in on-call rotation of the new product, providing operational support to our platform


We have three functional pillars within the Platform Team:


Managed Platform
- Deploy, manage and support the uptime and reliability of our SaaS platform, including our public cloud configurations, 10's of thousands of pods running on hundreds of Kubernetes clusters.
Managed Services - Provide value-add cloud-native services that run on Kubernetes. The team currently supports VMware's Managed Kafka, Observability stacks, logging services, secrets management and more! Having Golang experience is ideal in the development of Kubernetes Custom Resource Definitions.
Security & Compliance - The platform is certified in FedRAMP High, PCI, HIPAA, SOC2 and more. We are constantly innovating, building new services and automating to secure our platform and increase our security posture with least privilege principles and zero trust.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Nishat Afshan, the Saas Platform Manager of the VMWare Developer Platform Team (aka “VDP”), an experienced manager who joined VDP in Aug, 2021.


The team is distributed globally and follows dynamic, open culture at work and encourages to learn from each other, teach others and grow along with others by being collaborative and courteous.


Where is this role located?

This role is open to fully remote and can be done anywhere in Ireland. If you live in the surrounding area of Dublin, you will have the option to work from the office partly or fully if you wish to do so.
